AB At the National Centre for HIV Social Research and within The Wellness
Programme, a model has been developed that points to specific
psychobehavioural factors for the HIV positive person that have immune
consequences. A prospective longitudinal study is now underway to
increase current knowledge about those aspects with the ultimate goal of
matching individual differences to psychosocial therapeutic
intervention. A companion pilot study focuses on immune consequences of
the individual's undertaking of three types of self-help interventions.
Behaviour and cognition will be investigated in regard to immune change
and latency and duration of effects will be monitored. The ultimate goal
is to enable the matching of perceived physical sensation and
psychological wellbeing to choice of intervention. The design
differences that set these studies apart from previous programmes, and
expected advantages will be discussed, as well as any data that have
been collected.
